The trend

With modern gadgets getting minute in size and big in function, contemporary designers seems to follow the catchword “small is the new big,” which is equally supported by latest advancements in technology. Earlier this year we came across the Sony’s roll-up OLED display concept, and now Chinese designer Wang Yifei has come up with a foldable phone, the Nokia E10, which lets you roll out the display to make or receive mail, and when not in use you may simply stash it to place in your pocket. Prior to the concept, Nokia has already registered a patent describing the integration of foldable displays into mobile phones, though there are indications that the technology would cover a wide range of consumer devices like portable music players, notebooks, etc.

With the latest technological advancements, features and functions of mobile phones change more frequently than any other portable gadget available on the market, as we see something different and new in a cellphone every few days. Conceived by designer Jim Chan, the “Nokia 2030” is a phone concept that presents an illuminated touch sensitive keypad to allow fast and easy messaging. Featuring a body finished in reinforced scratch-resistant glass, the futuristic phone comes with full-color display capabilities to enhance the experience of the user. Measuring 2 x 4.75 x 0.25 inches (WLH) in dimensions, the Nokia 2030 also attaches colored films, at the rear, to change its color, while polished titanium case protects the screen from scratches.

Nokia N8 does make for one compelling device with its 3.5” capacitive touchscreen, 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and 720p video capture at 25 frames per second, HDMI output, and Video on-Demand through the Ovi Store. Aside from its camera centric focus, the Nokia N8 is the first handset to run on the Symbian^3 OS. It has 16GB of internal memory, FM radio, FM transmitter, Wi-Fi, GPS.
